Back to the racetrack, where everyone gets to be a kid again.
After receiving a wonderful response from my last set of photos from Mission Race Track which led to an invite by Peter Valkenburg to join his team for the day. I am posting another set of photos. Please don't mind the size of the post. I wanted to make sure that every car that I got a photo of made it up in the gallery. I know some of these cars are peoples babies, and I don't blame them.
I grew up as I think many young auto enthusiasts, loving only the current modern day cars. My first car loves were the Porsche 959, Jaguar XJ220, Ferrari Testarossa, Lamborghini Countach and then eclipsed by the McLaren F1. These were the cars I had or wanted on my walls as a kid. I never thought there was anything as good that came before them. I'm guilty of not getting interested into older cars until only a handful of years ago. But now I'm understanding where those cars and today's current crop of sports and super cars came from. Spending some more time at the track recently has helped fuel this new passion for yesteryears cars. The rawness of earlier cars and the no frills lack of comforts in these cars all for the betterment of the drive and speed is something I can appreciate.
Beautiful Volvo heading out to the track.
Lastly, a large portion of the Vintage Racing on this day was for awareness and raising money for the Mission Hospice Society. A number of the racers were giving rides with all proceeds donated to the charity. I went around in a beautiful BMW 2002. Sadly something broke on the last lap. But it was special!
I'd love to get into racing. Maybe next year I'll get my license, I've always loved driving and racing in my video games.
I had another great time and hopefully, you guys enjoy.
Thanks again Peter for the invite, it was great to meet your wife and friends. Nice driving too!
